Ante is a fitness accountability platform that uses commitment contracts: you stake money on your own fitness goals, and the outcome is determined entirely by your own verified activity. By creating an account you agree to these terms, including the binding arbitration agreement and class-action waiver in Sections 12 and 13.
1. Eligibility
You must be at least 18 years old and able to form a binding contract. One account per person.
2. This is not gambling
Stakes are commitment deposits, not wagers. There is no element of chance: whether you keep your money is determined solely by whether you complete the fitness activity you committed to, as verified by activity data. You are never playing against the house or other users for our profit.
3. How stakes work
Your stake is charged when you start a challenge and held while it runs.
Complete the challenge → your full stake is refunded. We take no fee on success. Card refunds appear in 5–10 business days; stake credit is instant.
Miss the challenge → your stake goes to the recipient you chose, minus a 10% platform fee. If you chose a charity, it is sent as a donation. If you chose a friend, they receive non-cashable Ante credit.
Ante credit is not cash. It can only be applied toward the recipient's own future challenges on Ante. It is never paid out as cash, transferred to a bank account, or redeemable for goods or gift cards.
Group pots: all members stake equally and commit to the same goal. Each member who completes the goal has their stake returned and receives an equal share of the stakes forfeited by members who did not complete it (less the platform fee), credited as non-cashable stake credit. Each member's outcome depends solely on their own verified activity — there is no element of chance and no wagering against other participants.
Ante credit can be applied as described above but has no cash value and cannot be withdrawn.
4. Verification & fair play
Workouts must come from approved sources (Apple Health, connected fitness services). Manual entries do not count.
All verification is performed on our servers using anti-cheat rules (duration, heart rate, distance, timing).
We may investigate suspicious activity and withhold payouts during investigation.
Accounts found falsifying activity data are permanently banned and forfeit pending stakes.
5. Syncing your activity is your responsibility
Ante can only verify activity that successfully reaches our servers. It is your responsibility to make sure your workout and step data syncs and is verified before your challenge deadline. Apple Health and third-party services do not always push data to us automatically, so you should open the app and confirm your progress is recorded ahead of any deadline.
We are not liable if your activity fails to sync or verify for any reason outside our reasonable control, including but not limited to: a dead, lost, broken, stolen, or powered-off phone; loss of internet or cellular connectivity; airplane mode; revoked, disabled, or never-granted Health permissions; iOS background-refresh limits; software updates; switching or resetting your device or account; or outages, delays, downtime, or inaccurate data from Apple Health or any connected third-party fitness service.
If verified activity does not reach us by the deadline, the challenge is treated as not completed and your stake is handled accordingly — even if you actually performed the activity. Background sync and deadline reminders are provided as a convenience only and are not guaranteed to run.
If you believe a genuine technical failure on our end caused a missed sync, contact [email protected] within 7 days. We will review in good faith, but any adjustment is at our sole discretion.
6. Subscriptions
Ante Premium is an auto-renewing yearly subscription billed through your Apple ID. Cancel anytime in iOS Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions; access continues until the end of the paid period. Premium perks (including stake credit bonuses) have no cash value.
7. Charity donations
Stakes designated for charity are donated to your chosen nonprofit via Every.org. Donations are made by Ante in aggregate and are not tax-deductible for you.
8. Cancellations & exceptions
Once a challenge starts, the stake is committed — that's the point. If you experience a medical emergency or other exceptional circumstance, contact [email protected] and we'll review in good faith.
9. Health disclaimer
Ante is not medical advice. Consult a doctor before starting any fitness program. You are responsible for exercising safely; never push through injury to save a stake.
10. Limitation of liability
Ante is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind. To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total liability to you for any claim is limited to the amount of your current active stakes. We are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, lost data, or for any loss caused by a failure to sync (see Section 5), by inaccurate data from third-party fitness platforms, or by events outside our reasonable control.
11. Let's try to resolve it informally first
Many issues can be sorted out quickly. Before starting arbitration or a small-claims case, you agree to first email us at [email protected] with a short description of the problem and the resolution you're seeking, and to give us 60 days to try to resolve it. This step is required of both you and Ante before starting a formal proceeding, and it pauses any related deadline while we work on it.
12. Binding arbitration
Please read this carefully — it affects your legal rights. It requires that all disputes be resolved by individual arbitration instead of in court before a judge or jury, and it is governed by the Federal Arbitration Act.
Mutual. You and Ante each agree that any dispute, claim, or controversy arising out of or relating to these terms, your account, your stakes, or your use of Ante will be resolved by final and binding individual arbitration. This applies equally to both of us.
Administered by AAA. Arbitration is administered by the American Arbitration Association (AAA) under its Consumer Arbitration Rules then in effect (available at adr.org). The arbitrator decides the dispute and issues an award that may be entered as a judgment in any court of competent jurisdiction.
Fees. For any claim governed by the AAA Consumer Arbitration Rules, Ante will pay the filing and arbitrator fees those rules require us to pay. Each party otherwise bears its own attorneys' fees, unless a law provides otherwise.
Convenient for you. Arbitration may be conducted by phone, by video, or on written submissions; if an in-person hearing is needed, it will take place in the county where you live.
Carve-outs. Either party may instead bring a qualifying individual claim in small-claims court, and either party may ask a court for injunctive relief to protect intellectual property. Nothing in these terms waives any right that cannot be waived under applicable law.
Public injunctive relief. Notwithstanding anything above, a claim for public injunctive relief may be brought in court and is not subject to arbitration. This provision is included so the rest of this arbitration agreement remains enforceable under California law.
30-day opt-out. You may opt out of this arbitration agreement by emailing [email protected] within 30 days of first accepting these terms, stating your name and that you wish to opt out. Opting out won't affect any other part of these terms, and we won't hold it against you.
Governing law. These terms and any dispute are governed by the Federal Arbitration Act and, where it does not apply, by the laws of the State of California, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules.
13. Class action & jury-trial waiver
To the fullest extent permitted by law, you and Ante agree that each may bring claims against the other only in an individual capacity, and not as a plaintiff or class member in any purported class, collective, consolidated, or representative action. The arbitrator may not consolidate more than one person's claims or preside over any class or representative proceeding. You and Ante also waive any right to a jury trial. If a court or arbitrator decides this waiver is unenforceable as to a particular claim, that claim — and only that claim — shall be severed and may proceed in court, while all remaining claims stay in arbitration. If the entire arbitration agreement is found unenforceable, any dispute will be resolved in the state or federal courts located in California.
14. Changes & termination
We may update these terms with notice in the app. You can close your account anytime; active challenges run to completion under the terms in effect when they started. We may suspend accounts that violate these terms.
